A look inside Treasures on Broadway

As soon as you approach the store window, it’s clear that Treasures on Broadway is not your average thrift store.

It’s located in the heart of Pitman, New Jersey.

Treasures on Broadway houses consigned clothing, shoes, jewelry and handmade accessories as well as brand new merchandise at very affordable prices. Store owner Theresa LaMonaca says she travels to New York City to catch up on the newest trends and to stock the store with fresh designer fashions such as BB Dakota and Ya. She also has contracts with Macy’s and Bloomingdales where she purchases overstocked items to fill the store with (such as in-season Madden Girl and Jessica Simpson shoes.)

The boutique also carries numerous hand-sewn handbags by Mary Frances, a California based designer. “No two are alike,” LaMonaca says as she shows me various designs, all exquisitely unique.

But what makes Treasures on Broadway a truly unique shopping destination is LaMonaca’s philosophy, “I want to make women of all ages and shapes feel like queens,” she says. LaMonaca finds that women who experience “mall anxiety” feel more comfortable in the homey boutique and often leave with an entire outfit for under $100.

When shoppers are seeking something in particular, LaMonaca keeps wish-list slips at her desk where shoppers can write down exactly what they’re looking for. When she finds it, she’ll call you. It’s this commitment to her customers that makes the store such a success.

As I browsed around the store, a customer entered and was greeted warmly by name. I asked the customer why she chose Treasures on Broadway. “Because of her,” says Cathy Baglivo as she points to LaMonaca, “whenever I stop by I feel like I’m visiting my girlfriend.”

The best part? When you shop at Treasures on Broadway you’re supporting a great cause. Fifty percent of the store’s sales go to the Lupus Foundation. The organization became dear to LaMonaca after she became affected by the disease.

On April 22, 2012, Treasures on Broadway will be hosting its annual Spring Butterfly event; a Sunday afternoon of food and fashion dedicated to raising lupus awareness. For $55 per ticket, you’ll get a catered lunch, fashion show and live auction. Last year the sold-out event auctioned items that included a pair of Phillies tickets and brand new Coach handbags that were unreleased to the public.

The personalized shopping experience, unbeatable customer service and amazing clothing make Treasures on Broadway a must-experience shopping destination.
